Jewellery Care Guide

Our masterfully crafted pieces are designed to become heirloom heritage. With proper care and preservation, their natural radiance will endure for generations to come.

Heat & Light Exposure

Just as the sun's rays can damage our skin, light and heat can affect a natural gemstone's color and durability. Over time, and in excess, they can fade or damage certain gems, such as amethyst, kunzite, and amber. Keep precious treasures away from direct sunlight when not in use.

Chemical Interactions

Exposure to everyday chemicals — including perfumes, hairsprays, cosmetics, and household bleach — can discolor metals or erode the surface of organic gems like pearls. Always apply cosmetics and fragrances before putting on your jewellery.

Safe Storage

Precious stones and metals can easily scratch one another. Store your pieces individually in soft velvet pouches or compartmentalized lined jewellery boxes. Always keep necklaces fastened to prevent tangling.

At-Home Cleaning Ritual

Most gemstones and fine jewellery can be cleaned safely with warm water, mild liquid soap (such as dishwashing liquid), and a very soft brush (like a baby toothbrush).

  1. Soak your jewellery in warm water with a few drops of mild soap for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Gently scrub with the soft brush, paying close attention to the area underneath the gemstone settings.
  3. Rinse thoroughly in clean warm water to remove all soap residues.
  4. Dry completely with a soft, lint-free cloth. Do not use paper towels as they can scratch delicate metals.

Gemstone Warnings

Emeralds:

Unlike diamonds or sapphires, emeralds are delicate by nature and often feature natural internal inclusions (known as jardin) and oil treatments. Do not expose emeralds to hot water, ultrasonic cleanings, or chemical steam.

Sapphires & Rubies:

Though durable, heat-treated or fracture-filled gemstones can react to harsh acids and cleaners. Clean only with warm soapy water.

Diamonds:

Diamonds naturally attract oils and grease from your skin. Regular cleaning is recommended to keep their brilliant facets sparkling.

Professional Inspection & Cleaning

We recommend bringing your Maza Gems jewellery to our showrooms once a year to verify prong security, setting integrity, and receive professional ultrasonic cleaning.
